Southern Chocolate Gravy

Chocolate gravy was a breakfast staple in my house growing up. I remember asking my mom to make it for me numerous times-even when I was older and home from college 🙂 It’s one of my favorite things!

It’s honestly not hard to make gluten free at all and it is still delicious!

Ingredients

  •   ¾ cup white granulated sugar
  •   ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  •   3 tablespoons 1-1 measure for measure gluten free flour (I recommend Bob’s Red Mill or King Arthur brand)
  •   Pinch of salt
  •   2 cups whole milk
  •   2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  •   1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Place a medium size saucepan over medium heat on the stove.
  2. Whisk together dry ingredients in the saucepan.
  3. Slowly add in milk and whisk until combined and smooth.
  4. Cook until thickened to desired consistency.
  5. Remove from heat and add in butter and vanilla.
  6. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • This is best served with gluten free biscuits. Here is a picture of some frozen ones that are amazing.

  • You can also serve this over pancakes, waffles, ice cream, or just eat it by itself. 🙂
  • I highly recommend using whole milk for this. You can sub non dairy milk and butter, but it won’t thicken as well.
  • You can use regular wheat flour if you don’t need this to be gluten free.

All done!

It is delicious!!
